A popular search engine giant Google has decided to shut down Google+ for its customers from April 2019.
The decision follows since a bug was discovered that exposed information of 500,000 users' profile data between 2015 and 2018.
In year 2013 Google Introduced Google+ as a second largest social network in the world, with over 500 million users.
Google+ is one of the biggest digital marketing tool for the users & digital marketing agencies, it lets you reach out to more specific audience according to your niche.
As Google+ is a Google product, it's always beneficial to create a business page on Google+. Whatever you post on Google+ is immediately indexed by Google. This helps you to enhance your site visibility on search engine result pages.
However, in last couple of years, Google+ has not seen any improvement in its user base, which ultimately becomes a reason to its shut down.
The low usage and engagement is a reason why Google is going to shut down Google+. Google says that 90 % of the users access the account for less than 5 seconds.
Nevertheless, since the service doesn't get shut down completely, the company has kept the service alive for enterprise customers who use Google+ to have a conversation between the workers.
The irony is, Google had not updated the service with passing years. The users switched to other social networking sites rather than using Google+.
Google+ was never considered as a proper social networking site like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. So, the users have not shown their interest in Google+.
As per Google, it still has data of millions of users and the company do not want anyone to expose it. This is why Google came to the conclusion to shut down the customer version of Google+.
In recent years, the major security issues came into notice, which put the user's privacy at stake.
On the other hand, the company didn't inform its customers about the security lapses that was found in March 2015 because it didn't appear that anyone had gained access to customer data.
Meanwhile, the privacy and data protection office have not found it legally required to report it.
Now Google has decided to shut down this service completely. The security issues have compelled Google to think over its further use. Whatever the reason is the user's privacy should not be compromised. The user's privacy is undoubtedly a top priority for the company.
It is important to know for Google+ users that Google will start deleting the data from April 2019.
So, if you have your data on Google+, Google suggests you download and save your data from your account before April.
The internet users are not be allowed to create a new Google+ account, profiles, pages, communities or events since February 4th 2019. Also, you'll have to stop posting any further on Google+, since it is going to be closed soon, it won't help in your social media optimization activity.
